I recently came across this very interesting concept in Psychology called the Yerkes Dodson Law.
This law explains how the Pressure around affects the Performance of an Individual.
There’s 3 pressure states :
High Arousal : When the pressure to do something is high
Low Arousal : When there’s no pressure.
Optimal Arousal : When there’s a fair bit of pressure to get something done.
When you are assigned to complete a task which doesn’t interest you , often times you require a fair bit of external pressure to get it done. But, if the pressure is too high you might end up just forgetting the main purpose of the task only to escape the external pressure.
Similar to how I usually forget all the memorized concepts during my paper under high exam stress and end up performing the opposite of how I actually should’ve. :)
